Yet another actress harassed in Kerala

Chennai, May18(tamilnaducentral):  Soon after the sexual harassment of actress Bhavana, Manju Warrier was subjected to a similar treatment in the capital city of Kerala. Fan club members of an actor were behind this, say unit hands. This time, actresses and lady technicians drove to CM’s office and asked for safety to them within the State. Manju Warrier had backed Bhavana  and publicly alleged that a conspiracy was behind it.

Manju Warrier’s  Malayalam film `How Old are you’ was remade in Tamil with Jyothika essaying the role in ’36 Vayathinile’. Manju Warrier  was playing a role of a slum dweller in a slum colony in Thiruvananthapuram. The director shot the portions in the actual location. The film unit had sought police permission and obtained it. The trouble broke out after a an actor’s fan club members started disrupting the shooting. The fan club members claimed that the area was under their control and that they have to be taken care of. The local policemen who witnessed this had advised the unit members to pay up.

Despite this, the fan club members blocked Manju Warrier from going out of the colony. It happened two days back and again yesterday night. Each time, the unit paid the money and made Manju Warrier escape. Today morning, the same fan club members gathered.

Manju Warrier who led the fight for Bhavana, called her friends Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, editor Beena Paul,Anjali Menon, Bhavana, Geethu Mohandas, Padmapriya, Vidhu Vincent, Sajitha Madathil, Ramya Nambeesan and Sayanora Philip; this news spread with more women technicians joining the actress. They met Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and told him about the apathy of the police despite taking permission.

They  decided to form a Women’s Collective in Cinema. Mammootty, directors Aashiq Abu, Amal Neerad and many others have phoned Manju and offered their help. The group after meeting the CM said that there was no politics but were saddened that trade bodies like AMMA, FEFKA and MACTA looked the other way when it came to harassment of actresses.

Sources say that the local police station was peeved that the unit approached the City Commissioner and hence instigated the actor’s fan club.
