Chennai,Mar 20(tamilnaducentral): It was a get-together of different sorts when Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy, rebel AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam, and opposition leader MK Stalin ‘shared a stage’ in Chennai yesterday or at least, their ‘body doubles’ did. This first-ever show called ‘Coffee With MLAs’ was staged when 20 performers clad in white shirts and dhotis and wearing face masks of Tamil Nadu MLAs enthralled a crowd at Valluvar Kottam.However, no real MLAs showed up. The event was conducted by several youths, along with volunteers from the NGO Arappor Iyakkam.
AIADMK Deputy General Secretary T T V Dinakaran on Sunday claimed that the ‘two leaves’ symbol belongs to his faction and that he would file the nomination for the RK Nagar constituency on March 23. This comes at a time when the rival O Panneerselvam camp submitted a petition to the Election Commission last week, requesting it to allot the ‘two leaves’ symbol to them for the RK Nagar bypoll. Dinakaran claimed that only 10 members had left the party and that 90 per cent of AIADMK supporters are still with him.
The Election Commission has summoned representatives of the ruling AIADMK and the rebel group led by former chief minister OPS to appear before it on March 22 to discuss the ‘two leaves’ symbol issue. The EC has also issued notices to AIADMK general secretary Sasikala Natarajan and deputy T T V Dinakaran directing them to reply to the petition presented by the OPS faction by today, March 20.
Madhavan, husband of Deepa Jayakumar who said he would float a new political party a few days ago did a U-turn yesterday and said that the purpose of his new party is only to make Deepa the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Supporters of Deepa are reported to be not very happy with the developments and the indecisive state of the wife-husband duo. It is also said that Madhavan who had left home on March 17 has not returned till date.
Deepa, meantime is busy preparing for RK nagar bypoll, say her loyalists and an election committee is in place to monitor and coordinate electoral activities.
The rebel faction led by former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam is going the e-way to woo RK Nagar voters. Their technical team is coordinating electoral activities and connecting with the voters through WhatsApp groups, say reports.
