Chennai, Dec 31 (tamilnaducentral): As Sasikala took charge at AIADMK HQ, a worker attempted suicide at Jayalalithaa samadhi. At Perambalur, workers burnt effigy of the general secretary and announced disbanding of party organisations.
DMK is going through internal problems as Anbazhagan is not willing to endorse Stalin as working president or deputy president as long as Karunanidhi is alive.
Today morning, Swathi Anand, an AIADMK worker of Tiruvallur district, consumed poison at the Jayalalithaa samadhi and shouted slogans against Sasikala. She collapsed and was taken to the nearby Government hospital. In Perambalur and Vellore districts, AIADMK workers burnt effigies of Sasikala and announced that the party units have been disbanded.
Party seniors had advised Sasikala to not take over the general secretary post within a short time and to defer the decision till the ground reality is made suitable. The Mannargudi family had pressured Chinnamma to not refuse the post.
Senior leaders in DMK lead by Anbazhagan, the general secretary has said that announcing Stalin as working president and Kanimozhi as co-general secretary will not be right . They argue that as long as Karunanidhi is alive , this announcement will not go well with the senior party cadres who cannot see anybody else in the post. On January 4th, the general body is meeting in Chennai and reports say that the elevation of Stalin and Kanimozhi is on the cards.
Seniors believe that there could be a revolt from certain sections of the party. It could be fuelled by the Alagiri camp to make Stalin look as power-hungry. Stalin is said to have told Anbazhagan that he should field the questions on this after the general body and did not say whether he had accepted it.
Stalin who paid a visit to his constituency said he was not aware that Sasikala was AIADMK general secretary, implying it was not something to lose sleep.
